WHITLEY BAY TRAIN STATION

Northeast Line

The Riverside Line

For the best part, this line of the Northeast Line started it's life around the 17th century,

Whitley bay station was situated between the now Popular station it's self and originally further down the line towards collurcoats station, but after a few months relocated to where it stands now.

My own earliest memories dateing back to the swinging 60s and the desil train andw to a young waister good fun and enjoyment, little did i know of another line near by called the Riverside Line that took you along the waters edge to newcastle and how it was to inspire me at a later age.

This website is a collection of both memories and photographs gleamed from the internet from before my time to more modern times.

Utube fans can gleam a lot of info about such times and days gone by but this site for the moment is still in it's development stages but we hope the many photos will fire up an interest that has kept many glued to train lines for centuries

From my early teens after leaving Whitley bay i hung around and lived in a community closer to Newcastle

The place stuck between wallsend and byker was called walker and next to the navel yard's was where i spent much of my misspent youth but was fastenated by the rumblings of a train that ran behind bernard street and past the ship yards being nosey i would climb the bank by pass the yards gate keeper and reach the line seemed Stealth was a new skill i had just acquired and boarder raiding the yards for wood an exciting past time what fun it was when young.
